A flashback is a literary technique often used in literature and films. Flashbacks interrupt normal events to add backstory. Because flashbacks interrupt the normal flow in a story line, editors and experienced writers strongly suggest only adding them if there’s a specific purpose for it. What’s more you should use it in the right place and sparingly. If you’re giving the reader crucial information for understanding the story, and the character’s motives, then these are important reasons. The Bible is replete with flashbacks like the following:
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
‘17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dream18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy’: Acts 2
Peter quoted the preceding Old Testament verses, revealing to the onlookers that the baptism of the Holy Ghost was foretold in God’s Word. So the Day of Pentecost was the fulfilling of that prophecy. And it’s continuing to be fulfilled over two thousand years later! His Spirit is still being poured out on those that are hungry and thirsty for His power, righteousness, and truth.
Those people who think that God no longer fills believers with His Spirit are plainly deceived. Some call themselves cessationists-they believe the gifts that happened in the book of Acts ceased during the time of the Apostles. Read more about cessationism. Why would God take away the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth from His people? Why would He not desire people to be healed today? God doesn’t forsake His own. He said He’d never leave us or forsake us.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whomcess the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5
Righteousness, peace, and joy
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Romans 14:17
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. I Corinthians 2:3
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts If you are someone who believes the Holy Ghost(Holy Spirit) is not for us today, then you are truly missing out on the glory and power of His kingdom. Don’t be like those men who stood before Stephen when he said, ‘Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost’ Acts 7:51
You might believe the ‘so called manifestations of the Spirit’ are fake. And you may say it’s of the devil. Well you could be right about some of them. Below is another blog post you might want to read concerning false prophets. Deceivers in the midst
Maybe you are someone that hungers for His Spirit. Seek Him with your whole heart, surrender control to Him. You can trust that He longs to give you good things. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
With the chaos in the world right now don’t you believe we need some comfort, peace, love, and wisdom? Jesus knows all about it. That’s why he said:
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
We need His Spirit. Time is short! Let’s Pray!
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. I Corinthians 12:3
